The BFA Thesis Show is an artist talk where students present their senior thesis design projects that will grant them their Bachelor of Fine Arts in Electronic Design and Multimedia (BFA in EDM) at The City College of New York. First, I sketched out the overall look I wanted the poster to have. My idea for this design is to have it look like it was hand-drawn with a marker.

First Draft

Next, I create the first draft of the poster in Illustrator. I trace the headline and handwrite the text using a marker brush. I used a limited color palette of yellow, black, and white.

Second Draft

For the second draft, I increase the size of the header. In the text, I swapped out my handwriting for a font called Urbane Rounded. I chose this font because I wanted it to contrast with the header's boxy lettering. I also expanded the color palette.

Final

In the header, I closed the opening gaps some letters had. For the letters that contained a pattern, I added color to them. For the text, I placed multicolor star bullet points and changed the color of the explosion-shaped bubble from black to pink. The poster and banner was used to promote the Artists Talk across different social media platforms.
