The Special Olympics is a sports organization that gives year-round training and athletic competitions for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. Its mission is to create a better world by promoting the acceptance and inclusion of all people, regardless of their ability or disability. I begin this project by redesigning the logo. I wanted the logo to reflect its mission and purpose.
A few ideas I thought of are depicting abstract human figures supporting one another or having the figures do a victory pose. Instead of a human figure, it would just be a winning gold medal. I got my inspiration from images I saw of the Special Olympians after winning a game or having their arms around one another.
I chose this logo since I felt like it best represented their mission. I came up with other variations for specific use cases. For example, if it was on a red or black background, I use the white version of the logo.
I used a limited color palette of red, blue, black, and white. The people featured in the illustrations are actual Special Olympians. Other promotional items I created are a poster, t-shirt, events booklet, and pins.
The upcoming events booklet contains information such as what the Special Olympics are about, the sports they offer, and future events.
I redesigned the homepage page of the Special Olympics website to match the design style I'm going for.
